Quick Tip – Open Cloze Texts

Read the whole passage first to understand the general meaning.

Try to find out if the missing words is a noun, adjective, adverb, modal, article, proposition etc.  The way to do this is to look at the words on either side of the blank but consider the general meaning of the sentence.

Remember you might be looking for a negative.

Present Simple

We use Present Simple to talk about something that USUALLY happens and general truths, but don’t forget timetables (trains, buses etc.)

I walk, (DON’T FORGET He,She,It walkS)/I don’t walk (He DOESN’T walk)/Do I walk?(DOES he walk?)

Expressions used with this tense are USUALLY, SOMETIMES, RARELY, NEVER, ALWAYS, OFTEN and when we mean ‘Usually’
